Gender Responsive Awareness Raising for Sustainable Farming for Resource Poor Farmers in Kilimanjaro

2004 - 2006
ENVIROCARE implemented the Gender-Responsive Awareness Raising for Sustainable Farming for Resource-Poor Farmers in Kilimanjaro Region project to strengthen the knowledge and skills of smallholder farmers, particularly
resource-poor farmers, on sustainable and gender-responsive agricultural practices.
The project recognized that sustainable development depends on improving people’s livelihoods while protecting the environment and promoting equal participation and opportunities for women and men.
ENVIROCARE therefore focused on identifying community needs and providing practical knowledge and awareness on issues directly affecting farmers’ lives and livelihoods.
Through community awareness and capacity-building activities, the project supported farmers to better understand sustainable farming practices, environmental protection, and the importance of gender equality in agricultural development.
Project Impact
The project contributed to increased knowledge and skills among participating farmers and community members, enabling them to apply the information gained to improve their livelihoods and respond to environmental and agricultural challenges.
By combining sustainable farming, environmental awareness, and gender responsiveness, the project strengthened community capacity to pursue improved livelihoods while promoting responsible use and protection of natural resources.
The project also demonstrated ENVIROCARE’s grassroots approach to sustainable development—working directly with communities to identify their needs, build local capacity, and promote practical solutions for lasting positive change.
